What kind of work do you do?
Coffee & TV is an independently run creative studio creating outstanding visuals for the advertising, film and TV industries. Founded in 2012, the studio has grown from humble beginnings to a team of 85+ full-time artists, producers and staff, all empowered to create their best work. As the UK's first B Corp certified creative studio, Coffee & TV continue to attract a global client roster and outstanding industry talent whilst maintaining the highest standards of social and environmental performance. The Coffee & TV family includes Residence Pictures, a specialist picture finishing facility for high-end features and episodics.

Why should new directors in particular be interested in your company?

Coffee & TV boasts a talented roster of colourists and VFX artists all of whom would be keen to work with new directing talent on the right project. Two of our colourists, Lois Chapman and Liam Van Rooyen are particularly interested in working with new directing talent to form career long working relationships and elevate projects with their grading skills.

Diversity Leadership:

Recently launched, Pixel Pathway is a first of its kind training and employability scheme for the post and VFX industry. We provide free training up to an entry level standard in colour grading, post production producing and VFX alongside key employability skills. We’re working with outreach partners to uncover fresh talent from communities that aren’t fairly represented within the industry. The scheme is launching as a small, London focussed pilot to prove the concept this summer. After that we have lofty ambitions for a formal roll out within London, the UK and beyond.

We are a Certified B Corporation which means we are continually measuring and improving the DEI of our business and working with stakeholders to do the same. We have a working Diversity Group and Slack Channel, the group has to date:

  • Met regularly to discuss news, events, opportunities, challenges and solutions

  • Written a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy

  • Written a ‘Call it out’ Procedure to tackle racism and discrimination

  • Volunteered hours through mentoring schemes and taken part in equal opportunity events, projects and initiatives to improve industry DEI practices

  • Evolved our inclusive hiring practices

  • Held ideation sessions based on our DEI Survey Results and past events

Designed events, programmes and workshops to educate the team on all areas of diversity, equity and inclusion to empower allyship and action

This year we launched Pixel Pathway which provides free & paid training up to an entry level standard in colour grading, post production producing and visual effects. The initiative aims to tackle both the diversity and inclusion crisis and the skills gap “in one hit” and is working with specialist outreach partners.

We have been measuring and analysing the DEI of our studio since 2022 through the platform Culture Amp. Our inclusion score rose from 92% to 93% in 2023. We are on a continuous journey of improvement to ensure our team is truly representative, however, according to gender, sexuality, and socio-economic background Coffee & TV is diverse.

As Shiny members, we are supporting free entries for Shiny’s education & training partners (Mama Youth, Brixton Finishing School, Creative Mentor Network, LSA, ELAM and universities & colleges worldwide).

Also as we are on the jury panel for the Shiny awards, we donate prizes to support new & diverse filmmakers.
